This practical course introduces students to the fundamentals of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and their applications in ecology and conservation. Students will learn the theoretical foundations of coordinate reference systems and gain hands-on experience with GIS software (QGIS/ArcGIS Pro), including geoprocessing, landscape metric calculation, digitizing, and thematic mapping. The course culminates in a multi-criteria study design and site selection exercise. On the final day, students will present their work, either individually or in groups.
