Understanding and predicting the spatio-temporal variation of biodiversity in a world of global change are the overarching themes of our research. Specifically, our team is interested in (1) the impacts of climate and land use change on species distributions and biodiversity, (2) the variation of different aspects of biodiversity (e.g. taxonomic, functional, and phylogenetic diversity) across space and time, mostly at large geographical scales, (3) the thermal ecology of insect species, e.g. how physiological capacities or limits influence species’ vulnerability to current and future climate change, and (4) the societal challenges related to conflicts and synergies of climate change mitigation and nature conservation. While we address many of these questions from a macroecological and biogeographical perspective, we particularly promote integrative approaches, also across disciplines, to better understand how species and biodiversity respond to environmental changes in a human-dominated world.
